Treating PTSD
In another amazing way that acupuncture fits in our healthcare system the military is using it to treat PTSD. The Archives of General Psychiatry estimated that as many as 17 percent of the veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan have PTSD which can cause symptoms including anger and depression. There are numerous programs now offering acupuncture and other alternative treatments along with counseling, cognitive therapy and medications. According to reports, in July 2008 Army Chief of Staff General George Casey visited one of the programs and said it was “the most innovative program that I’ve seen”.
